When he’s not acting, Noah Lomax is taking advantage of COVID by taking some courses at SCAD, in hopes of majoring in performing arts once things open up again. You may recognize Noah as Josh from Safe Haven or as Louis Morales from The Walking Dead but he’s all grown up and giving us a look at his new film The Secret Society of Second-Born Royals.

“It’s about Sam, who’s played by Peyton Elizabeth Lee, who’s a second-born and her older sister is basically about to become the queen. She finds out that she’s in a secret society with other second borns that have superpowers. And basically it’s kind of her, navigating the struggles with the Secret Society of Second-Born Royals and then her life as royal with her sister…There’s a lot of stuff going on and I hope you know everyone that sees it really enjoys it.”

Noah plays Mike who’s Sam’s best friend and bandmate.

“I feel like he’s a very laid back chill guy. He’s very loyal to Sam. He’s kind of like her rock and I like to think he’s her healthy distraction from all the stresses that the royal life may bring. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have any superpowers, but that’s kind of what I felt makes him unique. I feel like his superpower is just being her best friend when she needs him.”

Noah was drawn to this film not just because of the story, but because he got to learn a new skill.

“When I first got the audition I was really intrigued by the plotline and the script about second borns having the whole society and stuff and then my character Mike, he plays the drums. It’s always been something that I’ve always wanted to learn, just because I’ve been into rock music ever since I can remember. So probably playing the drums is really what caught my eye.”

“I had no prior instrument experience at all before this, and I had to get pretty intense lessons before we started filming. My drum teacher, his name is actually Mike too which I thought was pretty funny but he was awesome. He really taught me well and I picked it up quick and I’ve been doing it ever since. I got a little GarageBand with a couple of my buddies here at home so that’s super fun… Yes, I’ve kept up with it. After everything I learned, I didn’t want to just toss it all out the window. I got my own kit and I’ve been doing it since we started filming. I wish I could go back now and refilm some of the scenes so I could really perfect them, but maybe in a second, we’ll see.”

Just because Mike isn’t in the secret society, it doesn’t mean he isn’t going to be in on the action. Noah (and every Disney fan out there) is already hoping for a sequel.

“He’s the only young character in the movie that doesn’t have superpowers and kind of is on his own with his own little story. I felt like that was really cool and interesting… He helps them when he can. He does what he can and hopefully, if we ever do a second one, maybe he can be a little bit more involved.”

Even though Mike doesn’t have powers of his own, Noah said some of the powers would be pretty cool to have in real life. When asked which one he’d like to have, he said Matteo’s (Faly Rakotohavana) power.

“He has the power to control insects. And I think that would be really cool especially because I don’t like bugs. I’ll be able to just tell them to just leave me alone and they would. That’d be a cool power to have.”

Noah also says that this isn’t your average Disney movie.

“I think what separates (this movie from other Disney movies) is the dynamic of all the kids, with their different superpowers and different personalities, and that they’re all second-borns instead of the princes and princesses. We’ve had all those before, we’ve had the stories about the high school princes and princesses but now we get a different point of view with the second-borns. We get to see what they’re going through as second-borns and they’re kind of unique personality traits that go with their powers. I feel like that’s a really cool dynamic that we haven’t seen on screen before.”

“There’s so much that the audience can look at and take away from this but I feel like the biggest thing is probably self empowerment. Just because all the second-borns have a lot to show… they’re struggling with finding themselves so I feel like self empowerment and being ok leaning into what you’re born with and who you are is the big message and just being confident.”

The Secret Society of Second-Born Royals hits Disney Plus this Friday, September 25th!

“I hope people really enjoy it and I can’t wait to see what everyone thinks. I’m really proud of what the final product came to be and I can’t wait to see what everyone thinks.”
